Dance

The contrast between the refined, graceful movements of ballet and the rough, textured surfaces of the city creates a dynamic interplay between the human form and its environment. I sought to capture the strength, agility, and athleticism of the human body; to capture the tension and contrast between the traditional and the modern, the refined and the raw. Sculptures showcase frozen moments of bodies in motion, capturing the essence of grace and fluidity amidst the gritty and textured environment of the concrete and metal cityscape, itself decorated with iconic gesture powered graffiti. A static expression of the human form in motion contemplating the connection between the physical body and how settings shape our understanding of pose and form.
Departing from realistic representation of the human form; exaggerated, simplified, and abstracted in ways that emphasize certain aspects of the human body or create dynamic composition; challenging traditional representations of the human body or to subvert cultural expectations and stereotypes.
